Ambili was a tough task, says Soubin Shahir

Soubin Shahir is considered as the man with a golden touch following the successful run of his movies. After he won the hearts of the audience with Virus and Kumbalangi Nights, his latest release Ambili also impressed the audience.

About the character in Ambili

Ambili was a unique character in my career. Ambili is suffering from a disease but he is very sharp. So it was a tough task for me to portray the character. I have to thank the director who convinced me that I can play the role. So, I tried my level best to make the role entrusted in me, said Soubin.

Ambili was a painful task

Detailing about his preparation for the movie, Soubin stated that he was not much prepared.

I was sure that Ambili’s character is not something which can be tried. So I told director John Paul George that we will start shooting. I found it very hard to adapt to the walking style of Ambili. I got severe body pain after walking in Ambili style. After the shooting packed up, I got admitted for body massaging to relieve from the pain, he added.

The secret behind Soubin’s popularity

Honestly speaking, I have no idea about it. I never took a special effort to entertain the audience. I think they clap for my movies because they love me. I am lucky to get such appreciation and love from the audience, said the state award-winning actor.

He noted that he used to behave naturally while playing his character. Soubin stated that he never assesses his performance after shooting each scene by watching it on monitor.

I will be tensed if I watch each scene on the monitor. So I skip it as it will affect my natural performance, he pointed out.

Chemistry with Fahadh Faasil

We are good friends from our young age. So, we are comfortable to act together. Fahadh supports his co-actors without leaving them in much pressure.

Because of this chemistry, we were successful to impress as Collins-Rasool in Annayum Rasoolum and Crispin-Mahesh in Maheshinte Prathikaram.

About stereotype roles

After Annayum Rasoolum, I got offers for the characters which speaks in Fort Kochi slang. Most of the directors approached me with such roles. But Shyam and Dileesh Pothan, the makers of Maheshinte Prathikaram wanted me to perform as an Idukki native. It worked out in the movie.

Soubin stated that his experience as an associate director also helped him to perform well.

I tried to react properly in most of my movies. I wish to continue this style in my future too. I think this style of acting impressed the audience, he pointed out.

Time to turn as a selective actor?

I got offers for new projects. We have to commit some projects for the sake of friendship and loyalty to some people. In some situation, we would not be able to be selective. I committed some movies without having a clear idea on the role and story, Soubin justified his stand.

I never thought that the audience will accept me as an actor. So I used to cooperate with the people who are comfortable for me, he added.
